The K1.3 students of Ms Joanne Galea have been learning about transport. After making their own collages out of plastic bottle caps, the students created their own aeroplane from recycled boxes. Finally they flew their aeroplane in the school yard… Pity I did not have my boarding pass!

Transport
The Kinder 1.2 students of Ms Josianne have been learning about the various means of transport used to travel in air, on land and at sea. This offered the students the opportunity to learn how to sort objects. Students also learnt about the various directions and ways one can travel e.g in a straight line, in a circle or in zig zag formation. Students also learned about the value and recognition of number 4 and later had to stick 4 bricks on a truck.

Transport… Aeroplanes… Counting is fun!
Seldom are the moments when I can really appreciate what goes on at school in our classrooms. Today I had the opportunity to visit Ms Joanne and her students of K1.3 during their morning routine.
The first thing that captured my attention was the way the students gathered round their KGA to sing their morning prayer and their “Good Morning” salute. The children joined in an action song about transport, since this is the topic being covered at present.
Seeing the children’s faces when a beautiful repetoire of aeroplane models was displayed in the classroom was something to remember. But the cherry on the cake was when their KGA, Ms Joanne, transformed into a pilot who took the children for a journey on a old aeroplane wearing a warm hat, scarf and goggles.
After zooming around the class in her aeroplane, the children were invited to “Malta’s airport”. The children had to prepare aeroplanes for take off depending on the number being shown. Finally the children were inivited to go out in the school yard and fly their own aeroplanes.
To complement this activity the students used finger painting techniques to draw the circular motion of the aeroplane’s propellor.
I thank the staff for sharing such moments with me. Well done Ms Joanne 🙂
