Fun Maths games – Learning through play

This week the Yr 2 students are learning odd and even. After reading the story of “Odd Todd and Even Steven” students classified the numbers from 1 to 10 according to odd or even.

In pairs the children played two card games.

First card game was a memory game – the children had to collect the cards if both cards turned were odd or even and leave them there if not the same.

Second card game was snap – the children had the cards distributed equally between them. They had to call snap when two odd or two even numbers were on top of each other.

Special Assembly – Pets

The Year 2 students prepared a special assembly about pets under the direction of Ms Stephanie Azzopardi. An important message was sent to students about how to take care of pets and that pets are not just a Christmas present to be forgotten after a few weeks or months. Pets deserve a lot of love and care.

Adding Three Numbers using Tens Frame and Caps

The children used caps in 3 different colours to work out additions with 3 numbers. They had to create sums with the first two numbers adding up to 10 and topping up with the next colour.

Afterwards they created their own sums with caps and formulated the sum on their mini whiteboards.

Counting through dominoes

Children made different amounts by counting the dots on the dominoes. They noticed the pattern used to made these amounts. Afterwards the dominoes games was played in pairs where kids enjoyed playing this game who only a few knew how it is played.

Teachers from Poland Visit Our School to Observe English Lessons

Six teachers from Poland visited our school to learn more about how the teaching of English is promoted. After a welcome drink and an introduction about our school, the teachers visited Ms Stephanie Azzopardi’s classroom.

The teachers enjoyed the lesson and also joined in the fun during the closure of the lesson with a very catchy action song. Well done to the students for being great ambassadors. Special thanks to Ms Stephanie Azzopardi for hosting our guests 🙂

Gingerbread Man…

The Year 2.2 students of Ms Stephanie Azzopardi, enjoyed cooking a Gingerbread Man. The students enjoyed the session while learning about measuring, food hygiene and and team work!

eTwinning – A European Partnership

With all the modern technologies, the sending of Christmas cards is something, which our kids do not do often. That is why I decided to enroll on an e-twinning project with 6 foreign schools where we had to create Christmas cards and send them to each other.

Kids were excited in creating these cards. They were much even excited when we started receiving these Christmas cards. The kids learnt a lot from this activity as we noticed several things such as different stamps, cost to send a card, addresses to be written, how long it took to arrive to destination and how letters arrive from one destination to another.

It was truly an experience which the kids will never forget!

Gearing up for Christmas

While learning vocabulary related to this time of the year, the students of Yr 2.2 prepared a live crib and enjoyed a number of activities related to Christmas.
