The Kindergarten students of Ms Josianne Camilleri have been learning about the shores of Malta and about the numerous creatures that live around the coast of Malta. Many of these creatures are hard to find nowadays and unless we protect our beaches and shores they risk to vanish forever. Well done to our little ambassadors for raising awareness about our environment 🙂

Dinja Waħda… f-ANT-astic
The Kindergarten students of Ms Maria Debono embarked on their Dinja Waħda project… f-ANT-astic. Through this activity students learn about the different types of ants that lived in the same “household” including the queen ant, the worker ants (who collect food for their nest) and the soldier ants, who are bigger in size than the workers and who do their utmost to protect their nest.
The story has it that a careless woman threw the cigarette in the garden and this caused the ants to flee away from their nest leaving all their food behind. They settled in a new home, but they had a lot of work to do. Luckily they came across a girl who helped them out by dropping breadcrumbs close to their new nest.
Dinja Waħda… Fikx in trouble…
The Kindergarten students of Ms Joanne, Ms Janice and Ms Marija have been busy working on another Dinja Waħda project. Through this project the students had time to visit the school garden and to observe different creatures that live in the soil.
This project was an opportunity for students to learn about lizards, spiders, birds, butterflies and the natural habitat of these creatures. They also learnt how these creatures depend on each other in order to survive.
Below is a photo gallery of the different phases of this project.

Vanishing Homes…
Caring for our environment is essential. We live in an ecosystem where every organism depends on one another. If an imbalance is created, this may lead to the extinction of a number of species and may lead to natural disasters.
Bird hunting, deforestation, burning down of forests, farming, the industrial revolution and other factors have a direct impact of the habitat of a number of animals. Trees are homes to birds, snakes, insects and many other creatures. When trees are cut down, the homes of these creatures vanish.
The year 4.1 students were made aware of these issues during another Dinja Waħda activity.
In a Flutter…
The Maltese environment is home to a number of different butterflies. Unfortunately, some of these butterflies have become very rare and seldom can they be found.
During preparations for another Dinja Waħda activity, the year 6.1 students had the opportunity to learn about the life cycle of butterflies, while familiarising themselves with the butterflies that can be found on the Maltese Islands.
Robin Feeder…
The Kinder 1.2 students of Ms Joanne Galea are working in full force for the Dinja Waħda project. A few days ago the students were informed about the migration of robins and they made a beautiful collage.
Ms Galea took this activity one step further. She made a robin feeder using a sieve (thus recycling material). This feeder was then hung in the school garden under one of our trees. Some pieces of apple were left in the feeder for birds to find food.
Believe it or not., when Ms Galea finished the lesson, a robin visited her class and stood on the windowsill. The children were so happy to see this robin 🙂
Nurturing love towards nature…
The Kinder 1.2 students, of Ms Joanne Galea, have been busy preparing a beautiful collage of a robin. The aim of this activity was to make students aware of this cute bird which visits our island at this time of the year.
Robins migrate to warmer climates in winter. They travel long distances to reach our island and face many perils on their journey. It is thus of utmost importance to welcome and to enjoy robins in their full freedom on our island, and not locked up in a cage.
Well done for sharing this activity with us and for working on another Dinja Waħda activity 🙂
Dinja Waħda…
The school would like to announce that during the past scholastic year 2013-2014 our students, teacher, KGAs and LSAs have been awarded the Gold Award for the second time in a row. The students are now aiming for another Gold Award and for the Blue Flag (awarded when a school is awarded 3 gold awards consecutively).
Well done to all. Special thanks goes to Ms Rodgers, assistant head, for coordinating the Dinja Waħda Project 🙂
Gardening…
Our students have been busy working towards making our school environment a better place to be in. The scorching sun does not only have a direct impact on us human beings, but it also affects the environment we live in.
Our school is surrounded with beautiful gardens, but if not taken care of all trees and plants would dry up. Under the direction of Ms Rodgers, our students watered the plants and trees. Thank you and well done 🙂
A shore thing…
On 6th June 2014 the Kinder 1 students of Ms Joanne and Ms Josianne went to Gnejna for a hands on session. The aim was to make our students aware of natural sea habitat, it being home to many different creatures.
The students learnt about different forms of fish and other sea creatures that live in our coasts. They also learnt the importance of keeping shores clean and encouraged tourists to take care of our environment.
Finally the students made a sand collage in commemoration of their participation in the Dinja Waħda project.
