Kinder epxeriencing milking a cow…

The Kinder 1.4 students of Ms Janice have been learning about animals. During one of the activities Ms Janice decided to give her students a hands-on experience of cow milking. The students enjoyed this activity, while appreciating the importance of milk and nurturing love for cows 🙂

Safety at Sea

boat01Ms Joanne Galea of K1.3 has been teaching her students about safety at sea. She introduced the topic to the children by bringing life jackets and a rescue ring. The students had the opportunity to role play a boat trip.

The students wore a life jacket and they drove on a boat in a scenario created by the KGA in the school gym.

As a follow up the students painted life jackets and boats. They also made a model of a boat which was later displayed on the corridor notice board.

Keep up the good work 😉

Literacy at a very early stage…

On 17th February 2014 I had the opportunity to visit the Kinder 1.4 class of Ms Janice. Although at such a tender age, the children’s independence and eagerness to learn struck me immediately.

K1.4

Students revised recognition of letters done so far in Maltese namely a, b, ċ, d, e and f. The KGA then introduced the letter ġ. The students enjoyed finding the letters corresponding to items which begin with that particular letter.

As a follow up activity the children had fun painting a big slice of cheese and a mouse. Thank you for sharing this experience with us 🙂

Transport… Aeroplanes… Counting is fun!

Seldom are the moments when I can really appreciate what goes on at school in our classrooms. Today I had the opportunity to visit Ms Joanne and her students of K1.3 during their morning routine.

Transport01

The first thing that captured my attention was the way the students gathered round their KGA to sing their morning prayer and their “Good Morning” salute. The children joined in an action song about transport, since this is the topic being covered at present.

Seeing the children’s faces when a beautiful repetoire of aeroplane models was displayed in the classroom was something to remember. But the cherry on the cake was when their KGA, Ms Joanne, transformed into a pilot who took the children for a journey on a old aeroplane wearing a warm hat, scarf and goggles.

Transport02

After zooming around the class in her aeroplane, the children were invited to “Malta’s airport”. The children had to prepare aeroplanes for take off depending on the number being shown. Finally the children were inivited to go out in the school yard and fly their own aeroplanes.

To complement this activity the students used finger painting techniques to draw the circular motion of the aeroplane’s propellor.

I thank the staff for sharing such moments with me. Well done Ms Joanne 🙂

Hand puppets…

The kindergarten students of Ms Maria Debono, together with their LSA, Ms Marika, have prepared some wonderful puppets.

Puppets

The puppets were made of socks. The socks were decorated with buttons, wool and other material to bring these puppets to life.

Well done for the wonderful crafts created 🙂

Christmas Biscuits…

On 9th December 2013 the K2.1 students of Ms Marija Spiteri, together with their LSA Ms Ruth Debono, and the students of K2.4 of Ms Janice Vella cooked some delicious biscuits in preparation for Christmas.

The students were given time to roll out the dough, cut their biscuits using different shaped cutters and to decorate their biscuits with chocolate. This cookery lesson served to teach the students a number of fine motor skills, food handling skills and socialising skills while enjoying themselves.

Well done to the kindergarten assistant, the LSA and to our litte chefs for the delicious biscuits cooked 🙂

Kinder 1.2 planting their little plants

On 20th November 2013 the kinder 1.2 students of Ms Josianne Camilleri enjoyed the school garden, and outdoors, while learning about plants and the care needed when putting a plant in a pot.

The students learnt that plants need soil. Soil gives plants the necessary minerals which serve as food for the plant. The students also learnt about the importance of watering plants if they are to be kept alive.

Well done to all the students and their kindergarten assistant 😉

Learning through play

Learning through play is an essential part of the educational programme for children at kindergarten level. Kindergarten asistants provide different opportunities for children to enhance their fine motor skills, while socialising with their peers.

Below is a short photostory capturing some of the above mentioned moments of the children in kinder 1.3 of Ms Joanne Galea while learning through play.

Is-Sinjura B

Ms B (2)Ms B (3)Ms B (4)

Illum ħtaft l-opportunita’ biex immur nagħti titwila lil Ms Joanne Galea, għalliema tal-K1.3. Il-kurżita’ ma ħallitnix bi kwieti. Kemm il-darba nara lil Ms Joanne sejra l-literacy room b’ittra mdendla mal-ħwejjeġ tagħha. Għalhekk iddeċidejt li mmur nara x’qed isir f’din il-kamra iddedikata għat-tgħallim tal-litteriżmu.

Ħadt gost nara lit-tfal jitgħallmu dwar l-ittra B billi iltaqgħu mas-sinjura B. Din is-sinjura B kellha magħha ukoll bosta sorpriżi ta’ affarijiet li propju jibdew bl-ittra B. It-tfal vera ħadu gost.

Grazzi Ms Joanne talli qsamt magħna din l-esperjenza 🙂 Ninsab ħerqana biex niltaqa’ mas-sinjura Ċ fil-futur qarib 😉
