3D shapes…

These are some photos of an activity carried out with the Yr 6.1 students during a Maths lesson. The children were asked to create 3D shapes using blue tac and toothpicks. After doing so, the number of vertices, faces and edges of each 3D shape were discussed. Everyone enjoyed this activity, including the learning support educator.

3D Shapes

The students are learning about 3D shapes at the moment. They sang along merrily to the 3D shapes song and learned about 3D shapes in objects they can see in their everyday life. The students also played an online game to show their knowledge of 3D shapes and their names. They later handled each 3D shape in order to learn about their properties (i.e. faces, vertices and edges). The students also participated in a sorting activity in order to distinguish between 2D and 3D shapes.

Exploring 3-D Shapes – The Cube

cubeThe Yr 1.2 students of Ms Marilyn had an interesting lesson during which they learned about 3D shapes, focusing on the cube. The lesson was introduced by revise the characteristics of a square. Then the teacher told the students the story of 6 squares who joined together to form a cube. Students had various activities to learn by doing about the features of cubes… sorting objects, sticking square faces to the 6 faces of a cube, putting play corner on the 8 corners of a cube and counting the edges.
