Learning away from school

Learning does not only take place at school. It is of vital importance to provide alternative places for learning. Kindergarten students visited the Playmobil Factory. Apart from learning through play and socialising, the students had time to do a performance on stage.

In a separate outing, students met the firefighters who risk their life on a daily basis to save others.

Singing, dancing and acting along with Goldilocks and the Three Bears

The Year 1.2 students when for their first outing for this scholastic year on 26th October. At 9am the students, together with their teacher, headed to the Visual and Performing Arts School in Swatar. Children participated in some fun workshops. The first workshop was about acting. Then they had  the  dancing workshop  and finally the singing workshop. All three workshops were based on the Fairy Tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Before leaving, children were given a smiley sticker and a handout  related to the said fairy tale.  Children had the time to move freely and to express themselves in various ways.

Glorious Citta’ Notabile (Mdina)

Mdina01On Tuesday 22nd March 2016, the last day of school before the Easter holidays, the two Year 5 classes paid a visit to Malta’s old capital city, Mdina. While exploring this wonderful city, we mingled with the many tourists coming from various countries, some of which stopped to say hello or comment about the beauty of this historic medieval city.

Mdina02Together we experienced the thrill of leaping into the past as we walked up and down many of the narrow and winding streets and spacious squares, stopping here and there to admire the various churches and palaces, amongst which the impressive St. Paul’s Cathedral, Palazzo Falson and the most interesting National Museum of Natural History hosted inside Vilhena Palace. We stopped for two breaks, one atop the bastions, from where we could admire the splendid view, and another in the public garden found in the restored Mdina ditch. The children had such a good time while learning to appreciate our national heritage.

A Taste of History… Birgu…

Birgu01Malta offers many cultural treasures which one can visit and the old city of Birgu (Vittoriosa) is indeed one of them. The two Year 5 classes could well appreciate this last Thursday 19th February 2015 as they roamed the winding village streets, passed through old gateways and admired ancient buildings and monuments, breathing history at every step.

Birgu02

We had the opportunity of visiting the Inquisitor’s Palace and the Malta Maritime Museum, each one of them worth a visit to Birgu on its own. Major restoration works are currently in progress on Fort St. Angelo, but we did manage to take a little peep at it as we enjoyed a walk along the beautiful Grand Harbour Marina in the surprisingly warm sunshine. At the end of the day we all felt enriched by our experience and a bit prouder of being Maltese.

Birgu & Marsaxlokk educational outing

On Friday 21st February 2014 the two Year 5 classes went to visit two important places in the south of Malta: the old city of Birgu and Marsaxlokk fishing village.

Birgu001 In Birgu they toured the characteristic narrow streets and identified a number of historical buildings and monuments. They visited the Inquisitor’s Palace (where there was some filming taking place) and then walked along the waterfront up to Fort St. Angelo, while admiring the beautiful yachts berthed at the Yacht Marina.

Birgu002

In Marsaxlokk they could observe the various fishing boats and nets from up close, while some pupils took the opportunity to speak with a few of the fishermen and women who were busy at their work.

Marsaxlokk001

In both places we could notice a good number of tourists enjoying Malta’s sights or savouring a tasty meal at one of the numerous restaurants we encountered on our path. Delicious!
