L-iskola qed tħeġġeġ lill-ġenituri biex jipparteċipaw f’din il-laqgħa.
The school is encouraging parents to participate in this consultation meeting.
School Council Elections were held on 23rd January 2015 across Malta and Gozo. This year the school had a very encouraging participation both for nominations and for votes.
Six members of staff, and seven parents contested the elections. Moreover, 163 votes, out of the 210 issued (one per family) were returned to the school giving a 77.6% parent participation. Such a figure is very encouraging and reflects well on the parent participation at Mgarr Primary School.
The School Administration would like to thank all the members of staff and parents who contested the elections, and all those who voted. The school would also like to welcome the new members of the School Council, namely of Ms Rose Griscti (president), Ms Ferrante (secretary/treasurer), Ms Janice Vella Muscat, Ms Joanne Galea and Ms Marika Bezzina (teacher representatives), and Ms Angela Portelli, Ms Rose Schembri and Ms Janie Vassallo (parent representatives).
Votes were counted in the presence of the candidates who contested the elections. Special thanks goes to Ms Maria Borg Vella, assistant head, for helping out in the counting process and for the photography.
Ms Rodgers, Eko Skola co-ordinator and assistant head at our school, has embarked on a useful mission at our school on 16th January 2015. This being World Tree Day, the students were asked to participate in a school based drawing competition. The students who drew the best 6 drawings were awarded a book.
Later on, during the day, students from yr 4, 5 and 6, participated in a clean up campaign of the school gardens. The students did a fantastic job and 4 large garbage bags of waste were collected.
The younger classes participated in other activities to raise awareness about the importance of trees. Below one can see photos of the yr 1.2 student of Ms Marilyn Bugeja doing a bark rubbing activity. This activity was a follow up of a lesson during which students talked about trees, their shapes and the different leaves and trunks.
Below are the year 2.2, of Ms Maureen Borg, during an art lesson in preparation for the drawing competition held by Ms Rodgers for the students.
On 18th December 2014 the school organised “Celebration Day” for the students. The aim of such an event is to acknowledge and celebrate the different abilities and talents of our students. All students learn in different ways. Some excel in one subject and some excel in others. Diversity is what helps our students learn from each other, and during such an event the school aims to celebrate this diversity.
The photos capture various moments of the show which was prepared with great dedication by all the members of staff and the students themselves. We hope you enjoyed the show 🙂

St Nicholas is the patron saint protector of our College. The feast of St Nicholas falls on 6th December. Since this year the 6th happened to be a Saturday, the college organised a special event for students from the various schools of our college on 5th December 2014.
The celebrations began with a the celebration of Holy Mass at Mgarr Parish Church. A short procession with the statue of St Nicholas followed. Out year 3 students who assisted the priest during mass has the opportunity to carry this statue.
A short programme followed at our school. Our year 6 students sang the college hymn. A surprise for the students followed… The Ekklesia Sisters visited the school and sang a number of Christmas carols to the enthused audience.
Finally Santa Claus himself distributed a goodie bag to all the students present for this event.
A Brunch was organised by the School Council for parents and relatives on 12th December. The weather landed itself perfectly for this event. Those present enjoyed their brunch in the veranda at Ta’ Soldi on a beautiful sunny morning.
During the event the parents had the opportunity to socialise, while helping the school to raise funds. The funds raised will be used to purchase more big books for our students.
Thank you for your constant support. Special thanks goes to Ms Rose Schembri, Ms Angela Portelli and Ms Rose Griscti, members of the School Council for finding the time and energy to organise these events 🙂
