Run up towards Christmas

The students are now preparing for Christmas. it is a school tradition to prepare special assemblies. At this time of the year a number of classes are involved in preparation of the Christmas Novena.Novena01

Through the Christmas novena students re-enact the story of the nativity, each day focusing on a particular character, The role of that character is explained, followed by Christmas carols.Novena02

Fractions…

The year 4.2 students of Ms Mathea have learnt about halves, quarters, thirds and eights. After sharing the learning outcomes and the success criteria, students had a PowerPoint presentation where they had to identify which shapes are divided into equal parts, and the fraction of each part being shaded. During group work the students had to divide their shapes into equal parts and shade the parts of their shapes according to the fraction being told.

Adjectives… Describing words

During an English grammar lesson children were divided into groups of four. As a team they had to come up with different adjectives that best describe the picture. Then they had to write down the adjectives. Afterwards children played the flash card game. Here children had to join the best adjective with each noun and they also had to think of other adjectives. After they had to write them down on their flash card.

School outing at Birgu…

On Friday 7th October, the year 4 classes together with the year 5 and year 6 classes went to the Historical village of Vittoriosa, better known as Birgu. They toured the characteristic narrow streets and identified a number of historical buildings and monuments. They also visited the Inquisitor’s Palace and the parish church dedicated to Saint Lawrence. Students were also given some historical background through drama.

An Artistic Robot at Work…

The year 4.1 students of Ms. Angelique have built a robot to create art. The children worked in groups and as a team they built a robot with the materials provided. When it was finished they put their robot on a cardboard paper and connected the wires to the motor. The robot started moving  in an unpredictable manner and hence creating art.

Star of the Week

During the star of the week children are asked to bring something to class and talk about it. This provides the students with an opportunity to enhance their public speaking skills while talking about something which is of great interest for them.

Shared Reading

Ms Anabelle Azzopardi, Literacy Support Teacher, held four shared reading sessions iwith the Year 4.1 students. During the last session the children were divided into groups. They were given some objects. They had to come up with an idea of an alien costume using these objects. First they had to draw, then they had to write the instructions. Finally, they had to dress one of their teammates the alien costume.
