Captions…

During an English writing lesson, the children were divided into groups and had to come up with captions to write under each picture provided. Once captioned each group then coloured in the picture. Finally, they had to share their captions as a group with their classmates.

Christmas Advent Calendar in Aid of Less Fortunate People

This year the school embarked on a Christmas Advent Calendar with a difference. Students were asked to donate food and drink items, as listed on the special advent calendar, on a voluntary basis. The food was to be presented to the Parish Priest on 18th December during the celebration of mass.

Since the school received an incredible amount of food and drink items, arrangements were made with the Parish Priest to collect the food items from school. Dun Gorg made arrangements and brought over a van to carry the food to the church.

We would like to thank you all for you generosity. The food will be sorted in hampers to be given to those in need.

Celebration of St Nicholas Day

The school hosted the college based event celebrating the Feast of St Nicholas. Students from all the schools within the college walked towards the Mgarr Parish Church were mass was celebrated The students then visited a live crib in the outskirts of Mgarr.

The students returned to the our school where they enjoyed some carol singing by Gabrielle, follow by the recital of a poem written by Trevor Zahra, animated by Ms Eleanor Vella, HoD Literacy, Ms Annabelle Azzopardi and Ms Marcon Galea (Literacy Support Teachers) and Mr John Sultana. The students really enjoyed the show.

Finally, every student was given a traditional “qagħqa tal-għasel” and a bag of vetch together with a small statue of baby Jesus. Happy feast to all 🙂

Nouns Banner

After learning about nouns, the Year 3.1 students created their own nouns banner.  Each group was given a different category, i.e. people, animals, places and things.  Members from each group had to search the correct picture from the various magazines pictures displayed on  the tables.  Then, they had to cut, glue and write down the common noun under the said picture.  With this activity students realized more than before that nouns are all around us.  They truly enjoyed doing this activity.

Social Studies Fieldwork

As part of the Social Studies Curricula, the Year 3 students carried out a fieldwork in their school locality.  Students observed the environment surrounding the school.  They discussed and noted that some buildings are more modern than others,  some streets are also noisier than others,  what type of vehicles pass from a main street, what road signs one can find near a school and they also discussed the shops in the vicinity.  Finally, students had their well-deserved break at the local playing field.  The following photos show how much the students enjoyed doing this fieldwork.

Road Safety Campaign

All the students of the school, including the Year 3 classes had a one hour talk about road safety.  A public bus picked up the students from the school.  We were then taken to Ġnejna Bay.  The driver told the students what rules pedestrians should obey while crossing the road, driving a bicycle etc…   Bus drivers’ rules were also explained.  Among other things, the driver also explained to the pupils that some seats are reserved for the elderly and people with disabilities, what happens when they press the buzzer to stop, which door is for the exit, what happens in case a fire ensues etc…

Students were very interested and asked a lot of interesting questions.  Students and teachers alike learned more about our public transport.  If more people obeyed the established rules, there would be less chaos on the roads.

Fieldwork at Mgarr

Both year 3 classes had a fieldwork around our school this month. The children enjoyed walking around the school to answer questions about what is found inside as well as outside of our school. Once outside the school we observed numerous things, including roads, cars, buildings, traffic signs, shops, the church, places of interest as well as recreational areas in Mġarr. Here the year 3.2 students are seen enjoying their recess time at the playground. This fieldwork was such an enjoyable experience!
