Healthy Pizza Wrap

This week the children prepared a healthy snack using wraps. Students got a variety of ingredients. They discussed the importance of avoiding the consumption of processed food on a daily basis and discussed alternative ways for making a pizza topping healthier. Children were asked to follow the instructions carefully. After preparing the ingredients, they placed them on their wrap and then, these were put in the oven for a few minutes.  Later, they enjoyed eating their pizza wrap.

The Happy Prince at San Anton Gardens

This week Year 1.1 children visited San Anton Gardens. The children participated in a very meaningful play based on the story ‘The Happy Prince’ written by Oscar Wilde. After this, the children had the opportunity to visit the garden where they learnt a lot about nature.

They had lunch next to the turtle pond and then, they had the opportunity to observe several ducks and ducklings in the garden’s main pond. They also saw the black swan’s eggs. The children enjoyed looking at the colourful flowers, some busy bees at work, a lot of insects and also going around and under the magnificent trees.#

Learning Outdoors – Ta’ Ħaġrat Temples

Today the Year 1.1 children visited the pre-historic temple of Ta’ Ħaġrat. Children have been mentioning these temples since our first visit to the Mġarr Centre. They were very enthusiastic about this outing and most of them were very curious about this place.

We set off after talking about this place. We talked about directions and number of steps, shapes and signs. When we arrived we talked about the location of this place, the different sections, and the enormous structure of this place.

Children were asked to imagine who used these temple, who built it and why it was used. At this point, their imagination ran wild! Real facts and findings will be shared with the kids in the following weeks.

Children took photos of different parts of the temple. Soon, they will be referring to the photos which will help them build a model of their favourite part of the temple.

Children felt very lucky that the people from the past have chosen their humble village to built ‘Ta’ Ħaġrat’ in and that people from all over the world are visiting it.

Book Characters come to Life

Children dressed up as their favourite book character and got their favourite book to school.

They read a part of the story or recited the story in short as a part of the weekly Show and Tell.

Finally they drew their favourite character and wrote a sentence about their favourite book.

Sillabi…

Din il-ġimgħa, it-tfal tal-ewwel sena kienu qegħdin jitkellmu dwar is-sillabi u kif ser jinqasmu biex jgħinuhom fil-qari. Huma għarfu li f’kull sillaba jkun hemm vokali waħda u l-ittri doppji qatt ma jistgħu ikunu fl-istess sillaba. Dan sar kollu b’eżerċizzju ħafif meta bl-imqass qasmu numru ta’ leħħiet li kienu għamlu huma stess.

Maths Trail at School

Today Year 1 children participated in a school Maths trail.

They went round the school to count steps, find shapes, count fire extinguishers, observe height of trees and objects, and order numbers amongst other activities.

Whilst learning numeracy, the students enjoyed the outdoors.

This activity provided for a meaningful hands-on experience.
