Safety at Sea

boat01Ms Joanne Galea of K1.3 has been teaching her students about safety at sea. She introduced the topic to the children by bringing life jackets and a rescue ring. The students had the opportunity to role play a boat trip.

The students wore a life jacket and they drove on a boat in a scenario created by the KGA in the school gym.

As a follow up the students painted life jackets and boats. They also made a model of a boat which was later displayed on the corridor notice board.

Keep up the good work 😉

Literacy at a very early stage…

On 17th February 2014 I had the opportunity to visit the Kinder 1.4 class of Ms Janice. Although at such a tender age, the children’s independence and eagerness to learn struck me immediately.

K1.4

Students revised recognition of letters done so far in Maltese namely a, b, ċ, d, e and f. The KGA then introduced the letter ġ. The students enjoyed finding the letters corresponding to items which begin with that particular letter.

As a follow up activity the children had fun painting a big slice of cheese and a mouse. Thank you for sharing this experience with us 🙂

Transport… Aeroplanes… Counting is fun!

Seldom are the moments when I can really appreciate what goes on at school in our classrooms. Today I had the opportunity to visit Ms Joanne and her students of K1.3 during their morning routine.

Transport01

The first thing that captured my attention was the way the students gathered round their KGA to sing their morning prayer and their “Good Morning” salute. The children joined in an action song about transport, since this is the topic being covered at present.

Seeing the children’s faces when a beautiful repetoire of aeroplane models was displayed in the classroom was something to remember. But the cherry on the cake was when their KGA, Ms Joanne, transformed into a pilot who took the children for a journey on a old aeroplane wearing a warm hat, scarf and goggles.

Transport02

After zooming around the class in her aeroplane, the children were invited to “Malta’s airport”. The children had to prepare aeroplanes for take off depending on the number being shown. Finally the children were inivited to go out in the school yard and fly their own aeroplanes.

To complement this activity the students used finger painting techniques to draw the circular motion of the aeroplane’s propellor.

I thank the staff for sharing such moments with me. Well done Ms Joanne 🙂

Coffee Morning and Karaoke for Parents

Valentine01On 14th February 2014 the School Council organised a coffee morning, pasta lunch and Karaoke to celebrate Valentine’s day with a difference. The parents enjoyed this get together while helping the school to raise funds for the numerous projects in hand. Thank you all for your participation.

Well done to the organisers Angela Portelli and Rose Schembri 🙂

Pizza Wraps…

Pizza

On Wednesday, 30th January, Year 1.1 children,  were very excited because they were going to prepare a healthy tasty pizza on a wrap. Children were asked to follow the instructions carefully. After preparing the ingredients, they placed them on their wrap and then, these were put in the oven for a few minutes. When wraps were cooked, children enjoyed their delicious wrap.

Special thanks goes to their teacher Ms Marilyn, and their LSAs Ms Josephine and Ms Alison 🙂

Dinja Waħda

The school, as in previous years, has embarked on Dinja Waħda project aiming to make our students become more aware about the environment and wildlife. Ms Rodgers updates the noticeboard regularly with students’ work and other useful information. Keep up the good work 🙂

Dinja Waħda… Robin Round Up

Trapping of wild robins was common practice in Malta. However due to awareness campaigns in school by Birdlife, this habit has been reduced. The Robin Roundup activity is a constant reminder to encourage students to stop wild robin trapping.

Robin

The year 3.2 students of Ms Rodianne had the opportunity to learn more about this sweet bird which visits our country during winter to protect itself from colder winters abroad. The robin travels long distances to reach our island. Pity that some robins end up trapped in a cage, rather than being enjoyed in our countryside.

Students prepared craft robins which were displayed in class as a follow up to this activity.
