On 17th January 2014 the year 3.1 students of Ms Rosette and the year 3.2 students of Ms Rodianne had a hands on maths lesson. This lesson was co-ordinated and organised by the Maths support teacher, Ms Joan Vella.
The students had to make their on healthy sandwich. However they had to prepare their shopping list and then go shopping to buy the ingredients needed for this sandwich. They had to pay for the ingredients and make sure that they were given the correct change.
The children enjoyed their shopping. They went to the baker and to the grocer at Mgarr. When they returned to school they prepared their healthy sandwiches.
On Friday 24th January 2014 we celebrated GingerChoc Day. All students enjoyed their gingerbread man and hot chocolate. The school would like to thank all the parents for participating in this event. All proceeds will go for a good cause for the school.
The school would also like to thank the school council members for their hard work and for ensuring the smooth running of this event 🙂
The students of year 1.1 of Ms Marilyn Bugeja, together with Ms Josephine Galea have been putting their aritistic skills at work, creating beautiful paintings using poster colours. Well done for the fantastic works of art 😉
It is with great pleasure that I announce that our school collected 26,000 taps for the noble cause of “Irriċikla għall-Istrina”. We ranked 50 from 89 schools. This was our first attempt and we hope to do the same exercise next year. Well done and thank you 🙂
The year 5 and year 6 students have been busy during the past science lessons. The students were given a task to build a crane which could raise and lower a load. The load had to be raised or lowered by 50 cm.
The students were not allowed to use metal objects (except for the hook of the crane). They were allowed to use cardboard boxes. Students were divided into groups and had to design their own crane, build it, make a suitable base to keep the crane steady (e.g. by using stones, wood, etc.) and they had to test out their crane.
The students enjoyed doing their projects while enhancing team building skills. Well done to all 🙂
Ms Charmaine Mifsud, our Science teacher, together with the year 4 class teachers Ms Kylie, Ms Angelique and the students embarked on science and technology projects.
Students were asked to create their own shopping bags. Students were allowed to make use of recycled material, cereal boxes, cardboard, wrapping paper, string, ribbon, etc. However, it was up to the students to design their shopping bag, and to decide what material to be used, bearing in mind that this shopping bag had to be strong enough to carry a 500ml water bottle.
Students had to think of ways of how to make their bag stronger and how to ensure that the handles could support the weight. Students were divided in groups of 3 or 4 students. Once their project was ready, every group made a short presentation to their classmates to explain how their bag was designed, what material was used and the theme chosen e.g. Easter bag, Thank You bag, Mother’s Day bag etc.
Below is a short photo story capturing the students at work and the bags produced. Well done to all 🙂
The photos above show the students preparing for the Christmas concert during the dress rehearsal and the students, together with their teachers, LSAs and school council parents during the Christmas party dance 🙂
The staff at St Nicholas College, Mgarr Primary would like to wish the students, parents and all their loved ones a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year
Kindly note that school will resume on Tuesday 7th January 2014 at 08:30hrs.
On 9th December 2013 the K2.1 students of Ms Marija Spiteri, together with their LSA Ms Ruth Debono, and the students of K2.4 of Ms Janice Vella cooked some delicious biscuits in preparation for Christmas.
The students were given time to roll out the dough, cut their biscuits using different shaped cutters and to decorate their biscuits with chocolate. This cookery lesson served to teach the students a number of fine motor skills, food handling skills and socialising skills while enjoying themselves.
Well done to the kindergarten assistant, the LSA and to our litte chefs for the delicious biscuits cooked 🙂
