Directions

Learning through play is one of our school’s philosophies. Ms Marilyn Bugeja of year 1.1 thought of helping her students learn directions by playing a game in the school yard. Not only were the students learning their directions, but the teacher also linked this activity to numeracy.

Well done 😉

World Book Day

This week we are celebrating Library Week, and today, 9th April 2014, happened to be World Book Day. Reading is an essential part of every individual’s personal development.

Books

To kick start the day, our year 2.1 students prepared a special assembly commemorating world book day. During the assembly the students explained the different genres of books one may come across including fairytales, fiction, non-fiction, biographies, poetry and legends.

The students sang a song to complement their special assembly. Well done and thank you 😉

At about 10:30am all the students and members of staff stopped from their school work and spent 15 minutes reading to commerate this special day – World Book Day!

Ambaxxaturi tal-Qari…

Qari

4th April 2014 was a special day for our school. Special guests visited our school as “reading ambassadors”. The aim of this event was to promote reading. The school officially launched its first issue of the school magazine, Mit-Tfal… Għat-Tfal…

Ganni and Corazon, together with the Permanent secretary, Mr Joseph Caruana, Ms Coleiro, Mr David Muscat and Mr Sammut, the college principal, visited our school with a very important mission in mind – that of promoting reading.

The event kicked off with a brief introduction of the student council members and school council members who were introduced to our distinct guests. The students took the opportunity to present the first copy of the school magazine to the permanent secretary. Mr Caruana presented Corazon and Ganni with an official certification acknowledging them as reading ambassadors.

The guests were ushered to the year 1 and year 2 classes for reading sessions to begin. Meanwhile the permanent secretary, Mr Joseph Caruana, was kind enough to visit all the classrooms and have a chat with our members of staff and students.

A special guest, Mikiel (Agenda’s reading mascot) visited our classrooms. The students were head over heals when Mikiel entered their classrooms. The school takes this opportunity to thank Agenda Book Shop for the books donated to the school.

When the reading session was over, the year 3, 4, and 6 students gathered in the hall for a forum during which questions were asked to our ambassadors and the permanent secretary. Before the forum began, the year 2 students sang a song about reading.

Before leaving the school, Ganni and Corazon sang a song to our students and they also spared some time to sign autographs.

Special thanks goes to our distinct guests Mr Joseph Caurana, Ganni, Corazon, the college principal, Mr David Muscat (EO Malti) for organising this event and Mr Zammit who took photos of this event.

And finally a special thanks goes to all the members of staff who helped in the smooth running of the event.

Enjoy reading 😉

The Malta National Aquarium…Educational Outing

Aqua02On Monday 17th March 2014 the two Year 5 classes visited the Malta National Aquarium in Qawra. It was an extraordinary experience walking around the passageways of this virtual underwater environment whilst admiring the various species of fish and other marine life so skilfully gathered in this one place. The children could hardly contain their excitement as they pointed towards one creature or another, some familiar by name or by sight, others totally exotic. What a wonderful way to learn to appreciate what nature has to offer!

Prepositions… Above and Under…

PrepositionsThe Kinder 1.2 students of Ms Josianne Camilleri have been learning about prepositions. The two keywords the students learnt during this session were: above and under.

The students created a water scene. Then they had to make images of a fish, dolphin, turtle and ducks either above or below the sea using sponge printing techniques.

Well done 😉

The year 4 students had the opportunity to visit the Malta National Aquarium. Not only was this an experience worth viewing, but it also gave the  students the opportunity to learn about the different species of marine animals. Safety Mat for Kindergarten Students…

At our school we do our best to provide our students with a sound education in a safe environment. With the help of the parents, who always help us to raise funds for the embellishment of the school, we have now installed safety mats, for the kindergarten children in the internal yard.

Safety

This was a very ambitious project, but thanks to your kind donations, the project has become a reality.

On behalf of the staff and the students, I would like to thank you all for your generosity 🙂
