Healthy Breakfast

Kinder 1.2 and Kinder 1.3 joined forces to learn about healthy eating habits and the importance of starting the day with a healthy breakfast.

Healthy

After exploring which foods and drinks are needed to prepare a healthy breakfast, the students made their own breakfast and enjoyed eating this breafast with the classmates.

Ms Joanne Galea and Ms Josianne Camilleri took the lesson a step further by asking the students to colour in foods which should feature in a healthy breakfast, while learning the names of such fruits, and their colours, at the same time.

Celebration Day 2014

Today was a special day for our students at Mgarr Primary School. This day was dedicated especially to each and every student since we celebrated their achievements.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for the amazing performance, the parents for their constant support, and those parents who helped in the sewing of the costumes. Thank you and well done to all 🙂

Marathon Walk 2014

On Tuesday 29th April 2014 the school embarked on a Marathon Walk. The children had been given sponsor sheets with the aim of collecting funds for the school council.

Marathon001 (1)

This Marathon Walk was linked to Science Fieldwork which was co-ordinated by the science teacher, Ms Charmaine Mifsud, together with the class teachers.

Marathon001 (2)

Year 3 to year 6 students were stopped at Dingli, near the football pitch. From there they walked approximately 4km to Buskett. On arriving at Buskett the students were given a 30 minute break, followed by a 45 minute field work session. Students learnt about various leaves, temperature readings in the shade and in the sun light, insects and other interesting things related to Science and Technology. The students then walked back to Dingli, following a shorter route. The students covered another 3.7km in 45 minutes.

Marathon001 (3)

The Kinder 1 to Year 2 students were dropped at Buskett. They had their fieldwork which was adapted by the class teachers according to their age. Ms Portelli and Ms Schembri joined us in the venture to give an extra helping hand.

Well done to the students and members of staff for making this yet another successful event. The school takes the opportunity to thank all parents for this noble cause.

UEFA Art Competition

UEFA Judging00On Friday 25th April 2014, a judge from the Malta Football Association visited our school to judge the display of the children’s art work with the theme “Respect in Sport”. Our students drew different works of art which were displayed on two school notice boards by Ms Rodgers and Ms Said.

UEFA Judging01

The judge was accompanied by Mr Mark Attard, head of media department, the national coach and 3 players of the Maltese National team (U17) and their sport pyschologist.

UEFA Judging02

All the visitors were impressed with the art work presented by our students. We now await judgement. So good luck to our students. The coach commented about the fact that in our school team work is evident.

UEFA Judging03

The players and the coach met our year 4 students who were doing a PE lesson with Mr Steve Borg, who happens to be a player of the Valletta Football Team. (We take this opportunity to congratulate him and his team on winning the National Championship). The coach and players joined the students and played together for a short while. The students had the opportunity to ask, the players and coach, some questions about their career in football.

UEFA Judging04

The visitors signed our visitors book. We would like to thank the UEFA and MFA for this opportunity.

All photographs were taken by Mr Joe Borg, the official MFA photographer.

WasteServ and Batterina…

On 10th April 2014 Batterina, the WasteServ mascot visited our school. The aim was to make our students aware of the harm done to the environment when batteries are not disposed of in battery bins.

Batterina

Representatives from WasteServ visited the year 4, 5 and 6 classes and presented workshops and information to our students about the importance of Reducing, Reusing and Recycling. This event was organised in liaison with the Mgarr Local Council and WasteServ.

Let’s work together for a cleaner and healthier environment 🙂

The Skeleton…

Skeleton

Educating our children about the anatomy of the human body is important. Children should learn, from an early stage, how the body functions and what is needed to keep our body healthy.

During one of their lessons, Ms Marilyn of year 1.1 helped the students become aware of some of the major bones in our body. Not only is the skeleton an essential part of the human body because it helps to keep us upright, but it also is an amazing set of bones and joints which helps us move the way we do.
