Marathon Walk 2019

This yearly appointment is an event I looked forward to! Seeing all students and members of staff doing their utmost to keep up with a 15km walk is no joke 🙂 However enjoying breath taking views makes this walk worthwhile! Making memories for students at one of the “windows” found on the Maltese Islands adds to the fun.The marathon walk offers an opportunity for all to relax and have fun while learning through activities prepared by teachers.

Selfie moments with members of staff and exploring the whereabouts of Ġebel Ċiantar are moments that I will cherish forever.

Students enjoying themselves, even though some were exhausted.

Some places of interest included the Dingli Radar, Maddalena Chapel and Buskett Gardens. Along the way I had to carry a number  bags to allow students to get a rest 🙂

Students also got a closer glimpse of Filfa and Fawwara Chapel. Thanks to all for making this another successful event. Special thanks to all those who donated money. A record of €1400 was collected to purchase resources for our students!!!

More from Literacy Week

The children of 6.2 had to record themselves reading a story or poem, in English or Maltese. Then, they shared their tablets with their classmates who could hear the story being read using their headphones. It was great fun learning to read for an audience!

Literacy Day… creativity, technology and more!

The students were grouped and asked to create a story with characters they created using recycled material (e.g. paper plates, cereal boxes etc.).

Photos were taken using the tablets and the stories were presented in the form of a digital story using various different types of writing strategies (e.g. dialogues, instructions, story, note, directions etc.).

eTwinning between San Lawrenz Primary and Mgarr Primary School

The Year 6.2 students had a fantastic etwinning experience in Gozo between 22nd and 23rd April.

The students met their etwinners from San Lawrenz Primary School during this cultural exchange.

The programme was jam packed with fun, culture, history and new friendships.

The students stayed in Manresa house. On arriving in Gozo they visited the Cittadella, Folklore museum, the Cathedral, silos and battery shelters.

They proceeded to the natural history museum and the Ċitadella Visitors’ Centre where they saw a captivating documentary about Gozitan History. After they visited the dry moat, narrow streets in Il Manderaggio, saw an exhibition of Good Friday Statues, Don Bosco Oratory and the cemetery of the Crusades. Finally they visited Lunzjata Valley and its chapel built on a cliff side. Before retreating for the day, they had supper at House Manresa. After supper the students went to Ta Marziena and enjoyed Munxar’s open gym, then proceeded towards Sannat passing through Ġnien is-Sultan before going back to the dormitories.

On the second day the students visited Ġgantija Temples, Ta’ Kola Windmill, Xerri’s Grotto (famous for its stalactites and stalagmites), Ta’ Karmni’s Museum and finally off to Dwejra where student enjoyed a wonderful boat ride, corals, cliffs and deep blue waters.

Special thanks goes to Ms Sharon D’Amico, Yr 6 teacher at Mgarr Primary, Ms Doreen Abela, LSE at Mgarr Pirmary and Mr Saviour Tabone, Assistant Head at San Lawrenz Primary for organising such a memorable, education, cultural and etwinning exchange 🙂

Earth Day

More than 193 countries celebrate Earth Day on 21st April holding various events to demonstrate support for the protection of the environment.

Last week, Ms Claire Agius was invited to join the Go Green Club of Mgarr Primary school in their manifestation. Below is a video edited by her kindself to help us raise awareness.

Literacy Day… Buxu

The children listened to the story, Buxu Jsib Tezor. They played a fishing game. The children were split in two groups and used a fishing rod to catch some fish. Once they caught a fish they had to identify the number written on the fish. The children made a cat using toilet paper rolls using their favourite colour.

The children took turns to play the role of Buxu (wearing ears) outdoors. The other children played the role of Buxu’s cat friends. They counted numbers to play hide and seek while Buxu went hiding in a bucket that was full of fish which he shared with his friends and family.

The children had some time to improve their mathematical skills by using the beebot with cards/pictures taken from the book of Buxu.
