L-għ u l-h…

maltiL-istudenti tat-tieni sena ta’ Ms Stephanie kellhom lezzjoni dwar l-għajn (għ) u l-hakka (h). Dawn huma żewġ ittri li jħawwdu bosta studenti. L-għalliema użat sistema multi-sensorjali fejn l-istudenti użaw għodod differenti biex jesploraw kliem li jibda bl-għ u bl-h. Fost dawn l-għodod użaw “plasticine” u ittri tal-plastik biex joħolqu kliem li jibdew bl-għ u l-h. Fl-istess ħin it-tfal kellhom l-opportunita’ biex jaħdmu fi gruppi jew f’par biex flimkien johorġu b’aktar kliem.

Counting in 2s and 5s

countingThe Yr 2.2. students of Ms Stephanie had a very interesting Maths lesson. Children explored various ways of counting in 2s and 5s. Such learning sessions are very important as they prepare the foundations for manipulating numbers when learning tables. During one of the activities the students made their own hand prints, using paint, and then wrote the number of fingers under each hand print by counting in fives.

Twinning project with Dingli Primary

twinningThe school has embarked on a Writing Twinning Project with the students of St Nicholas Dingli Primary. Ms Elizabeth Galea, Head of School at Dingli Primary, came up with the idea of having the year 4, 5 and 6 students of both Dingli and Mgarr Primary sending invitations or other writing tasks to each other. Ms Christine Grech, teaching yr 5 at Dingli Primary, sent some photos and a sample of the students’ work to our school which are shared in this post. Well done to all 🙂

To revise the topic Common and Proper Nouns, Ms Miranda, class teacher of Yr 3.2, divided the class in four groups.  Each group was given 2 large mats: one for common nouns and another for proper nouns.  A set of flashcards was also given to each group.  The pupils had to sort these flashcards using the mats.  After, they had to place them on one of the four boxes entitled person, animal, place and thing on the mentioned mats. nouns02

Money, money, money…

Money

During a maths lesson the Yr 3.2 students of Ms Miranda were divided In groups. Each group was given a number of coins ranging from 50c to 1c.   The groups had to imagine that they were going to buy a particular object assigned to them.  Students had to use different coins to make the same amount.  In so doing children learned that they can make the same amount using different coins and rehearsed working out totals beyond 20c.

Adjectives… Describing words

adjectives

During an English grammar lesson children were divided into groups of four. As a team they had to come up with different adjectives that best describe the picture. Then they had to write down the adjectives. Afterwards children played the flash card game. Here children had to join the best adjective with each noun and they also had to think of other adjectives. After they had to write them down on their flash card.
