Little Scientists at Work…

Science

Students in Ms Claudine’s class of Yr 4.2 today conducted an experiment that is sometimes called Elephant’s Toothpaste.  In this experiment they mixed food colour, detergent, hydrogen peroxide and yeast dissolved in water in a plastic bottle using a funnel.  This created foam that shot up from bottles.  Experiment created heat too as bottle was warm.

Visit to Jardinland

The Year 1.1 students of  Ms Marilyn Bugeja and the Year 1.2 students of Ms Louise Cutajar had an interesting science fieldwork event. The students went to Jardinland where they had the opportunity to see different types of plants, flowers and trees. After going round and observing the surroundings they also planted a flower.

The year 4.1 students of Ms Angelique Attard prepared a special assembly for their schoolmates. During the assembly they demonstrated how electrostatic electricity can be produced by simply rubbing a balloon again a jersey. Students had a great time watching one of their classmates’ hair rising due to the electrostatic electricity that was produced.electricity

In another experiment the students demonstrated how a volcano erupts by making use of various material which when mixed together react to cause a volcanic eruption. Volcano

The Year 5 students of Ms Miranda Cauchi prepared 2 experiments to share with their schoolmates during their special assembly. Every class is presenting experiments to students, as had been planned in the school development plan, with the aim of instilling a love towards science.

Science02

The students first showed students how to make a telephone by using plastic, cups, paper clips and a piece of string. Then they prepared a salt volcano with the aim of explaining that some substances are denser then others.

Science Professional Development Session for Staff

Science01

Professional Staff Development is an important aspect of every school. Members of staff need to have their profession further developed, while learning new methodologies for teaching.Science02

Last Friday all the members of staff had a hands-on workshop about the Investigation Approach in Science. The teachers, Kindergarten Assistants, Learning Support Assistants and the Senior Management Team got their hands dirty while enjoying a very enriching experience. All members of staff had the opportunity to learn about the Research Cycle and how science surrounds us in our every day life.Science03

The session was animated by the Education Officer for Primary Science, Ms Pullicino, together with the help of two Science Peripatetic Teachers, Mr Buttigieg and Ms Polidano. This session allowed all members of staff to experiment, reflect and give feedback on the work being done.
Science04Special thanks goes to Ms Borg Vella for coordinating this sesion and for ensuring that all resources needed were available. Extended thanks go to Ms Maria Debono for helping out in the purchase of resources.

Special Assembly

Science01

The yr 6.2 students of Ms Raisa have launched the first special assembly for this scholastic year. As planned in the school development plan, every class is to present a science experiment during special assemblies.

The students prepared 2 experiments, one to make children aware that we are surrounded by air, and the other to demonstrate how the primary colours mix together to form new colours e.g. red and yellow make orange.

Well done to all 🙂

ExperimentThe K2.2 students of Ms Joan Vella were in a for a great surprise. Ms Joan Vella had a surprise in store. The aim of the experiment was for the students to see that we are surrounded by air… Air, being invisible, was made visible to the students through an experiment. The students were made aware that we breathe air and that we need to keep the air clean.

Observing Rainbow Colours

bubbles

After talking about the rainbow and its colours, the year 1.2 students of Ms Marilyn Bugeja were engaged in creating soap bubbles. Following this activity, the students were asked to observe the different colours in each bubble.

The children enjoyed creating soap bubbles but were very happy when the sun came out and they could observe all the rainbow colours in their bubbles.
