Observing Rainbow Colours

bubbles

After talking about the rainbow and its colours, the year 1.2 students of Ms Marilyn Bugeja were engaged in creating soap bubbles. Following this activity, the students were asked to observe the different colours in each bubble.

The children enjoyed creating soap bubbles but were very happy when the sun came out and they could observe all the rainbow colours in their bubbles.

Students had the opportunity to learn about how seeds grow and the major elements needed for a plant to grow strong and health. These include air, water, sun and minerals from the soil.

World Tree Day 2015

Tree Day

Ms Rodgers, Eko Skola co-ordinator and assistant head at our school, has embarked on a useful mission at our school on 16th January 2015. This being World Tree Day, the students were asked to participate in a school based drawing competition. The students who drew the best 6 drawings were awarded a book.

Later on, during the day, students from yr 4, 5 and 6, participated in a clean up campaign of the school gardens. The students did a fantastic job and 4 large garbage bags of waste were collected.

The younger classes participated in other activities to raise awareness about the importance of trees. Below one can see photos of the yr 1.2 student of Ms Marilyn Bugeja doing a bark rubbing activity. This activity was a follow up of a lesson during which students talked about trees, their shapes and the different leaves and trunks.Tree01

Show and Tell…

When introducing the topic “Animals”, the year 1.2 children were given some time to look for some information about their favourite animal. Then, they were asked to present their work to the other children. Such activities lend themselves perfectly to enhance oracy skills and the students’ self-esteem.

They were very creative and came up with some interesting facts!

Helping our students become creative and literate…

Show and tell

On another occassion the students were asked to bring their favourite toy to school for a show and tell session. During such sessions students are encouraged to speak about something, in this case a toy. The aim is to enhance the students’ confidence while encouraging them to practice their spoken skills in both Maltese and English 🙂

Marathon Walk 2014

On Tuesday 29th April 2014 the school embarked on a Marathon Walk. The children had been given sponsor sheets with the aim of collecting funds for the school council.

Marathon001 (1)

This Marathon Walk was linked to Science Fieldwork which was co-ordinated by the science teacher, Ms Charmaine Mifsud, together with the class teachers.

Marathon001 (2)

Year 3 to year 6 students were stopped at Dingli, near the football pitch. From there they walked approximately 4km to Buskett. On arriving at Buskett the students were given a 30 minute break, followed by a 45 minute field work session. Students learnt about various leaves, temperature readings in the shade and in the sun light, insects and other interesting things related to Science and Technology. The students then walked back to Dingli, following a shorter route. The students covered another 3.7km in 45 minutes.

Marathon001 (3)

The Kinder 1 to Year 2 students were dropped at Buskett. They had their fieldwork which was adapted by the class teachers according to their age. Ms Portelli and Ms Schembri joined us in the venture to give an extra helping hand.

Well done to the students and members of staff for making this yet another successful event. The school takes the opportunity to thank all parents for this noble cause.
